Description
The wild hyacinth or "fool's onion" is native to northwest USA. A cormus perennial, Triteleia hyacinthia, produces multiple slender stems up to 24” tall, each topped umbel-like clusters of 1" wide open-faced, star-shaped lavender-tinged white flowers with green veins and eyes in umbel-like clusters. As a meadow planting, it can be grown in clumps for best effect. Watch this pre-summer display last well over a month! Excellent and long-lasting as a cut flower. Grows best in full sun. It needs moist, fertile, well-draining soil with winter and spring moisture followed by summer dryness. This Zone 6 bulb (USDA Hardiness rating for Lancaster is now Zone 6A) prefers a mulch protected spot in winter.
