Description
Styrax japonicus, the Japanese snowbell, is a species of flowering plant in the family Styracaceae, native to China, Japan and Korea. Growing to 40 feet tall by 26 feet broad, it is a graceful, spreading deciduous tree with oval, upward-facing leaves which occasionally turn yellow or orange before falling in autumn
The Japanese snowbell is the most frequently planted species of this remarkable genus. Plants form delightful, horizontally branched small trees. Slightly fragrant, 1" bell-shaped flowers dangle from the branches in late May and early June. The sight is to be cherished and especially nice when viewed from beneath. Makes a great plant for use along patios or other places where the horizontal branch structure can be used to break up strong vertical lines.
