PUTTING THE GARDEN TO BED

Putting the Garden to Bed:  a presentation covering fall gardening activities including terrific tools of the trade,  planting bulbs, dividing and transplanting perennials,  and tips for preparing gardens for winter weather.  She also covers working to remove invasive species, with October being the best time of year to treat woody invasive plants like bittersweet, Norway maples, buckthorn, etc.  There is still time to do some transplanting although a little late for many perennials.   

Suzanne Mahler has been developing her 1.5 acre property for 40 years and is an avid plant collector with extensive collections of woody plants and perennials including more than 300 daylily cultivars and 250 varieties of hostas. She has been sharing her passion for gardening for more than 30 years, having spoken at the Boston, Rhode Island, and New England Spring Flower Shows, Art in Bloom at the Museum of Fine Arts, the Environmental Protection Agency, and garden clubs and organizations throughout the New England area.  Suzanne is past President of the New England Daylily Society, an Overseer for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, Horticulture Chair for the Garden Club Federation, and works part-time at a local garden center.
