Have you heard the Chinese proverb "May you live in interesting times? You must agree we do! As we reflect on the first half of 2020 it is clear this year will change the world- forever. Social upheaval and economic uncertainty has everyone on edge, and the Coronavirus pandemic has darkened our world, yet there are silver linings too. We need more silver linings. People are grateful for the simple pleasures. I am optimistic about the renewed interest in gardening and the increasing enjoyment of nature. Another bright spot is people’s appreciation for community, neighbors and one another. What better way to combine community and gardening than a membership in the Lancaster Garden Club? To learn more about the club consider joining our virtual annual meeting July 19th 7 p.m. We will conduct business, elect officers, and ratify the budget, and discuss the upcoming year. If you have not been to a meeting before this is a chance to chat with neighbors, and help shape the year ahead.
This fall planning is underway for our Annual Bulb Sale, which will be on line modeled after our wonderful on-line spring plant sale. Most programs and workshops will be virtual too. Sue Billings is busy planning programs, and maybe even some summer field trips. She needs help, and is accepting requests to consider. If you have suggestions we would love to hear them. If you have time to help her - that would be even better! I am hoping that next year we are back together and can join one another for a road trip to one of my favorite gardens, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Fingers crossed!
Typically, our annual meeting includes a fun filled presentation. This year we had planned on a beer and wine making presentation with a taste or two included for our annual meeting. Due to the new normal we have opted to keep it simple; just chat and hold the requisite votes and brainstorming. Bring your own tastings to this meeting. This year the platform will allow us the gift of time which we rarely have; time to meet one another and thoughtfully discuss our thoughts and plans for the upcoming year.
You don’t need to attend the annual meeting to enjoy the club. Our educational programs are fabulous, and as you may know worth well more than the price of membership. Speaking of which, have you signed up for your 2020 membership yet? Your $20 supports us, a non-profit that benefits us more than you may know. The Garden Club pays for civic beautification, educational seminars and of course great community building events like the plant sale and the bulb sale. Click here to renew or begin anew: we would love to have you join us! Don’t forget all members are welcome July 19th at 7 pm.
Please register to receive log in information for this virtual event.
Hope to see you soon,
